About Random Eats HK
Random Eats HK is a free bilingual website that helps people in Hong Kong decide where to eat when choice overload takes over. Instead of scrolling endless review lists, you set a few filters — district, budget, cuisine, or dining style — and get three random licensed restaurants to choose from. Reshuffle until something fits, then open the map link and go.
We built the product around a simple idea: official licence data is trustworthy for names and addresses, but it does not tell you whether a place is a cheap cha chaan teng or a group dinner spot. Our editorial tags (cuisine, budget, dining style, and short reasons) sit in a separate enrichment layer so the government data stays intact while the picker becomes useful for real decisions.

What the data covers
Restaurant names and addresses come from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department restaurant licences published on DATA.GOV.HK. The source is updated daily at 9:00 a.m. HKT. We refresh our merged dataset on a regular schedule and publish methodology notes so you can see how randomization, tagging, and geocoding work.
What we do not claim
- We do not claim that every pick is open right now, highly rated, or the “best” in the area
- We do not claim cuisine, budget, or dining-style tags are official FEHD fields
- We do not claim affiliation with FEHD or the Hong Kong SAR Government
- We do not claim walk-near distances are exact walking times for every address
